La tirotoxicosis responde a distintas entidades patológicas presentando diversas manifestaciones clínicas según su etiología y en base a la misma, serán las distintas opciones terapéuticas. El apropiado tratamiento deberá considerar las características de la enfermedad y del paciente con el objetivo de ofrecer la herramienta terapéutica más adecuada. En este artículo se describe una actualización sobre el tratamiento de la tirotoxicosis siendo esta la primera publicación en nuestro medio sobre este tema desde las Guías de FASEN del año 2013.
El grupo de autores pertenece al Departamento de Tiroides de la Sociedad Argentina de Endocrinología y Metabolismo.
Se realizó una exhaustiva revisión de la literatura con el objetivo de actualizar los ítems ya discutidos en la Guía mencionada y desarrollar los contenidos con opciones de tratamiento más recientes.
Los tópicos principales desarrollados en esta actualización fueron tratamiento de la Enfermedad de Graves Basedow, de la oftalmopatía tiroidea, de otras causas de tirotoxicosis, el manejo del hipertiroidismo en distintas etapas de la vida, la crisis tirotóxica y la calidad de vida en el paciente hipertiroideo.
Thyrotoxicosis is caused by several pathological entities and can present different clinical manifestations depending on its etiology. Based on this, the most appropriate therapeutic options must be selected. Treatment must consider the characteristics of both, the disease and the patient, to offer the most appropriate therapeutic tool. This article describes an update on the treatment of thyrotoxicosis, being the first publication in our field on this topic since the FASEN Guidelines of 2013.
The group of authors belongs to the Thyroid Department of the Argentine Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism.
A thorough review of the literature was carried out with the aim of updating the items already discussed in the aforementioned Guide and developing the content with more recent treatment options.
The main topics developed in this update were the treatment of Graves-Basedow disease, thyroid ophthalmopathy, other causes of thyrotoxicosis, the management of hyperthyroidism at different stages of life, thyrotoxic crisis and quality of life in hyperthyroid patients.
